Confined spaces are everywhere in Canadian workplaces—water and wastewater tanks, utility vaults, silos, sewers, ship holds, boilers, even crawl spaces in commercial buildings. They’re often routine, which can make them deceptively dangerous. Oxygen deficiency, toxic atmospheres, engulfment, mechanical hazards, heat stress, and disorientation can turn a “quick task” into a life-threatening emergency in seconds.
